ITED is presenting at Europe's leading 16th Pipeline Technology Conference
On Tuesday, 16th of March 2021, ITED is presenting at Europe's leading 16th Pipeline Technology Conference in Repair and Maintenance Session on topic Pipeline information modelling (BIM) for maintenance in Latvia. Go ahead and read more about our presentation!
Our company had the task in this project to prepare a digital as-built asset information model for three underground jet fuel pipelines (approx. length 10km in total).
The main project goals were related to strengthening welds of existing pipeline with composite materials. The pipeline contained more than 1000 sections which were reinforced and for each of this section as-built documentation e.g. reports, photos was gathered.
The client and one of the general contractors decided to digitize the whole project to have structured database of information additionally represented in 3D graphical environment.
To do this task simple 2D measurement data captured during the construction was transformed in to 3D as-built model showing exact location of the pipelines in nature. Then the model which consisted of individual objects - pipes, welds, wraps etc. was populated with unique information and links to documentation about all reinforced connections that were created by the means of creating individual IT solutions.
The end result is a simple to use visual 3D model of the pipeline enhanced with links to as-built information database, topography and other layers which can be opened and used with freely available tools significantly improving speed to which information can be accessed and thus improving efficiency of maintenance and future construction.
This is one of the rarest and more advanced BIM infrastructure projects in Latvia.
